I think Appelmos gives us a little peek into Mockingjay. In it, Katniss is equipped with different arrows for battle, and one of them sets on fire. The fiercer side of fire for sure.

I wanted to add something unique and different too by Munchkinmay. They took a picture of their sibling’s eye and put the mockingjay pin reflecting inside of it. I thought this was really creative, and it makes it look like fire!

So, I think a lot of us are curious as to the arena in “Catching Fire.” Katniss gets called in to compete again in the Games, this time around it’s called the Quatar Quell. It’s held with previous victors, one male and one female from each district, to compete once again against each other.
First off, we get introduced to a few new characters. Finnick Odair, Johanna Mason, Beetee, and Wiress. These are Katniss’ allies in the arena, and of course Peeta competes with her as well; Peeta volunteers when Haymitch gets called to compete, just so he can be with Katniss and fight for her.
But this time around, it’s Katniss’ goal to keep Peeta alive. And as we come to realize, that’s everyone else’s goal too. But of course Katniss doesn’t realize that this is all just a plan in a bigger picture…
So, what is in the arena? Well, let’s step into the first thing Katniss sees when raised above the ground: “Something seems to be wrong with my vision. The ground is too bright and shiny and keeps undulating. I squint down at my feet and see that my metal plate is surrounded by blue waves that lap up over my boots. Slowly I raise my eyes and take in the water spreading out in every direction.
I can only form one clear thought.
This is no place for a girl on fire.” (p.263)
There you have it: this place is full of water. So, what else is there? The “fun” only starts here!
Quick review of weapons: Katniss has her arrows, and mister Finnick Odair has his trident (he’s from district four, the district of fishing). These two as allies? Amazing weapon. Katniss drawing thanks to friedChicken365 and Finnick drawing thanks to Patsie on deviantART
Here we go with the elements of the arena. It’s structured as a clock (as Wiress figures out, clever woman), each hour holding a new horror that the Gamemakers have constructed. Some of the hours are a mystery, but here is the sketch that Peeta constructed of the hours they know about:
Hour 1-2: Blood Rain
Hour 2-3: Fog
Hour 3-4: Monkeys
Hour 4-5: JabberJays
Hour 5-6: Beast
Hour 6-10: Unknown
Hour 10-11: Wave
Hour 11-12: Insects with pincers
Hour 12-1: Lightening

Blood Rain
We don’t get to see much of this element, but as you can imagine, it’s literally a blood bath. *knee slap* 😀
Fog
This is one of the first things we run into. It’s fast and vicious, anyone that gets caught up in it gets suffocated and practically has a seizure. Finnick’s partner dies in this one, she purposely walks into the fog so that Finnick can carry Peeta to safety instead of her. Very emotional scene. Oh, I believe the fog also damages the skin.
Monkeys
These guys are a crazy bunch. First running into them they were peaceful in the trees, but once their hour hit, they went bananas *another knee slap* It’s a very intense fight scene with these monkeys, to say the least.
Jabberjays
Yup, another bird experimentally gone wrong. These guys mock any pitch they hear and exert it back. In this case, these Jabberjays have acquired the sounds of people screaming, or to be more specific: Katniss’ loved ones, like Gale and Prim. A thick piece of glass keeps them in to hear the torture of these screams, so they’re forced to listen to this for an hour. You can imagine them trying to keep their sanity. Oh, and Finnick gets stuck in here too, and he has to listen to the loved one of his Annie screaming.
Beast
We never get to see this beast, we only get to see people getting lifted from this part of the arena, their bodies horribly mangled.
Wave
I think this one is self explanatory: huge wave. Wipes out a lot of stuff.
Insects with pincers
We never see this sector of the arena, but Katniss, Finnick, and Beetee hypothesized that they existed at this hour of the arena.
Lightening
Also self explanatory, and this lightening is dang vicious! Beetee uses this lightening to his advantage later in the story.
Those are the elements of the arena! What happens there I’ll leave up to readers, or for those of you lazy butt’s, when the next movie comes out in 2013.

Today I bring you fan art from the website deviantart, and today’s character is Peeta Mellark! The boy with the bread 🙂 To be honest, although I think Hutcherson did a good job, I just pictured Peeta a little differently. Taller, bulkier, kind of a softer voice. But I know these things can be hard to pick out of actors, so I’m just glad they picked someone who could actually act! And thanks for the featured drawing of Katniss and Peeta, done by chelsea-bee!
Anyway, let’s see how other people envision him 🙂
I love how friedChicken365 did Peeta here, instead of just the cliche “boy with the bread” thing going on. Although we get introduced to Peeta’s talents in the first book, in the second we come across his talents of painting on canvases. He ends up showing Katniss a bunch of scenes from the Games, and she hates them since they’re so realistic. I love Peeta’s face in the drawing!

Here’s a closer look at Mockingjay, so people who haven’t read, then spoiler! I love how MariaSunderland visualized what Peeta would look like in his worst of times. To quote in the book: “No. Don’t take the handcuffs off. They help hold me together. When I feel myself slipping, I dig my wrists into them, and the pain helps me focus.” -Peeta
I like this one by AznNerd because I think people tend to forget that Peeta was on fire too!
AMClaussen drew Peeta the day that they reunited after the Games. I love how they drew him! He doesn’t look too young, and doesn’t look like an adult either, so it’s awesome! And I love the hair!
Aww, I like how O-Aredhel-O did Peeta here, back in district 12 doing his little pastries. What do you think he’s writing? I think Katniss’ name 🙂
SatelliteGhost paints the boy with the bread. I love the use of colors in this painting, it makes him look pure in some way, which Peeta is. Love how they depicted that even just through color!
Real or not real? A peek into Mockingjay, kara-lija draws Peeta and Katniss lying in bed together 🙂 It’s hard to find pictures of Peeta by himself, usually he’s paired with miss Katniss. Beautifully done!

Amazing painting done by len-yan. I love how even the background is extremely detailed, I feel like I’m really there with her. Her face is amazing, and who knows what she’s up to? Going to check snares, looking for Peeta, perhaps just tracking something else? I think this captures the intensity of the book very well, it’s rare to find such a realistic background with a character!

This Thursday I decided to think of thirty things to look forward to in the next movie in the Hunger Games series: Catching Fire. Trust me, it was hard narrowing it down to thirty things! And yes, you can imagine this post will be full of spoilers, so if you haven’t read the book yet then don’t bother reading onward (although I know some of you will anyway).
1. President Snow practically forcing Katniss to get married to Peeta.
2. Gale declaring his love for Katniss.
2. The tour Katniss and Peeta have to go on to “flaunt” their win.
4. The beginning of the uprising in Rue’s district.
5. Katniss finding out she’ll be competing in the Quater Quell, and Peeta volunteers to be with her instead of Haymitch.
6. The suspition of there being a district thirteen.
7. Katniss getting drunk. Ha!
8. Gale getting whipped, and the after affect when he’s brought back to Katniss’ house.
9. Katniss telling Caesar that she’s pregnant with Peeta’s child.
10. Her wedding dress burning away into a feathered dress instead, with sleeves as wings. Cinna turns her into the mockingjay.
11. The famous sugarcube scene with mister Finnick Odair.
